The Palestinian Prime Minister and Dutch Counterpart; On the Recognition of the State of Palestine, the Two-State Solution, and Bilateral Cooperation

 

 

DAVOS, Tuesday, May 24, 2022 -

 

The Palestinian Prime Minister of the State of Palestine, Dr. Mohammed Shtayyeh, held talks on Tuesday with his Dutch counterpart, Mark Rutte, on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in the Swiss mountain resort of Davos.

His Excellency called on Europe and the Netherlands to recognize the State of Palestine, stressing the importance of protecting the two-state solution amidst continued Israeli policies that aim to destroy every possible opportunity towards the embodiment of an independent and sovereign State of Palestine.

Dr. Shtayyeh stressed the importance of earnest European actions to fill the political vacuum, revive the political process and the peace process, achieve the two-state solution, and embody an independent Palestinian state. Such an initiative will send a message of hope to the Palestinian people, who have the right to self-determination and a sovereign state.

 

The Prime Minister indicated that the recognition of the State of Palestine is significant, at this point, in light of Israel's disregard of the agreements reached with it and the promotion of illegal settlements through the seizure of Palestinian land in favor of Illegal Israeli Settelments the construction of more illegal settlements. His Excellency discussed with Mr. Rutte possible ways to advance bilateral cooperation and promote Dutch cooperation and support programs for Palestine in several areas. The State of Palestine's Ambassador to Switzerland and Permanent Observer representing Palestine at the United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG), Ibrahim Khraishi, attended the meeting.
