The Palestinian Prime Minister's Meeting With the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy; International Financial Support and the Cessation of Israeli Violations to the Forefront

 

 

Ramallah, Tuesday, May 10, 2022 -

 

The Prime Minister of the State of Palestine, Dr. Mohammed Shtayyeh, met with the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, in Belgium's capital, Brussels. His Excellency informed Mr. Borrell of the recent political developments and updates on the situation in Palestine, in addition to Israeli violations against Palestinians.

Dr. Shtayyeh briefed Mr. Borrell on the situation in the city of Jerusalem, the Israeli occupation forces' ongoing violations, and the illegal Israeli settlers' incursions into the Al-Aqsa mosque compound. Furthermore, Dr. Mohammed called on the European Union to bring pressure to bear on Israel to halt these actions and emphasized the importance of preserving the Al-Aqsa Mosques' historical, religious, and political status.  

The Prime Minister called on the EU to bring pressure to bear on Israel to halt the displacement and deportation schemes against the Palestinian people. The latest of which was the Israeli Supreme Court's dismissal of a petition submitted by the people of (Musaffer Yatta) in Southern Hebron for the cessation of the occupation government's decision to demolish (12) villages and a Bedouin community of (4,000) Palestinian citizens in the area.

His Excellency discussed with Mr. Borrell the Palestinian government’s fiscal position and the financial crisis associated with it for several reasons, the main ones being the decline in international support and the ongoing iniquitous Israeli deductions from Palestinian funds. Moreover, Dr. Mohammad called on the EU to put pressure on Israel to release the withheld money and stop the iniquitous Israeli deductions from Palestinian funds. Moreover, Dr. Shtayyeh stressed the importance of Re-energizing the political process amid the political impasse and preserving the two-state solution.

The Ambassador of the State of Palestine to the European Union, Belgium, and Luxembourg, Abdul Rahim Al-Farra, the representative of the European Union to Palestine; Sven Burgsdorff, the European Union Special Representative (EUSR) for the Middle East Peace Process; H.E. Mr. Sven Koopmans, the Minister of Finance, Shukri A. Bishara, and the Secretary-General of the Palestinian Council of Ministers, Dr. Amjad Ghanem, attended the meeting.
