Ramallah – Prime Minister’s Office: H.E. the Prime Minister, Dr. Mohammad Shtayyeh, welcomed, today, Saturday, at his office in Ramallah, the Chief Justice / Chief of the Transitional High Judicial Council, Chancellor Issa Abu Sharar, to brief him on the work progress of courts during the emergency.

H.E. the Prime Minister said: “We are working hard to ensure the continuance of the judicial system work, rule of the law and the independency of judiciary during those exceptional times that we are living in, and in every time.”

Also, Mr. Abu Sharar said: “The Council has formed an emergency committee for the judicial authority to take the right decisions in light of the emergency, pointing out that the work continues in the minimum level in the judicial departments to ensure the public rights and freedoms; where the courts looked into about 6 thousands applications, files and cases during the first month of the emergency.”

Moreover, Mr. Abu Sharar explained that the committee made several decisions in order to maintain the work of the judicial courts in the minimum level, with strictly taking into  considerations Ministry of Health instructions that aim at stopping the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic. Such instructions are determining working days per week to ensure the continuation of looking into arresting applications, requests for release, restoring detention orders in the executive cases, as well as enrolling each judge to a court in the governorate he/she lives in.

Furthermore, they have both confirmed that the priority during the emergency is to preserving public rights and freedoms, in addition to ensuring the respect of human rights and taking care of them.

Lastly, they have discussed the possibility of adopting an electronic reporting system for the courts to ensure accelerating their work and to avoid the accumulation of cases.
