Shtayyeh calls on Brussels and Berne to accelerate the recognition of Palestine to face the threat of annexation

Prime Minister Dr. Mohamed Shtayeh, met the Prime Minister of Belgium, Sophie Williams, and the Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Casses, in two separate meetings, today, Wednesday, on the sidelines of his participation in the activities of the 50th annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

Shtayyeh called on Brussels and Berne to accelerate the recognition of the State of Palestine on the borders of June 4, 1967, with Jerusalem as its capital, to counter escalating Israeli threats to annex parts of the West Bank.

The Prime Minister said: "We want the European Union to work collectively to protect the two-state solution and the international resolutions that Israel violates daily, by trying to impose a fait accompli based on the theft of Palestinian lands and killing the possibility of statehood."

Shtayyeh added: "Europe should lead an international effort for the post-Trump project, which is still vague, but the aggressive measures that accompanied it show that it drops the Palestinian right to Jerusalem, the return of refugees, and the two-state solution and all that is considered a final solution issue."

On the elections, the Prime Minister clarified that "there is a national consensus to hold it, and a determination from the leadership to take place as soon as possible to include occupied Jerusalem," calling on Belgium and Switzerland to pressure Israel to facilitate its conduct in the Holy City, noting that the signed agreements recognize the Palestinian right to do so.

On the other hand, Shtayyeh briefed the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs separately on the government's plans to empower the youth economically, calling on the two countries to support the government's programs in vocational training, especially in the field of programming, and to encourage ideas and productive projects in technology, industry and agriculture.
