The Prime Minister announces new measures for workers and bridges

Prime Minister Dr. Muhammad Shtayyeh: “Israel bears full responsibility for the health of the Palestinians in Jerusalem as an occupying power, and must take all safety measures to protect them from infection with the Coronavirus,” stressing that the government and the President’s directives will take care to ensure the health of our people wherever they are.

This came during his presidency of a mini-meeting of the National Emergency Committee to confront the outbreak of the Corona virus, to discuss procedures for Palestinian workers in Israel, bridges and crossings and the readiness of the Ministry of Health, today, Tuesday, in his office in Ramallah.

At the end of the meeting, the Prime Minister announced new measures, the most important of which are: giving Palestinian workers in Israel 3 days to arrange their affairs for overnight in their workplaces in coordination with their employers, as movement between the Palestinian territories and the interior will be prevented after the deadline granted.

Shtayyeh demanded that the workers who work in the illegal Israeli settlements in our lands, not to go to it in the interest of their safety and that of their families and people, after recording many injuries among the settlers.

Shtayyeh also announced that there is coordination with Egypt and Jordan towards closing the bridges and crossings completely and in both directions, with the exception of commercial traffic and humanitarian cases and within agreed safety measures.

The Prime Minister said that there is coordination at the highest levels with the Jordanian government to arrange the return of the Palestinian citizens arriving at the airport who were placed under quarantine in Jordan, to ensure safety for both sides.

The Prime Minister instructed the Minister of Foreign Affairs to follow up the health conditions of Palestinian refugees and communities in various countries of the world and do the necessary to protect them in coordination with the governments of the countries in which they are located and to ensure that they have access to the necessary health care.

Shtayyeh explained that all medical assistance provided by the World Health Organization and friendly countries is titled the Ministry of Health, while the financial aid will be through the Ministry of Finance, and any humanitarian initiatives or assistance will be based on the statements of the Ministry of Social Development

In another context, the Prime Minister praised the voluntary initiatives that were recently launched to contribute to facing the disease, including a volunteer campaign launched by the Fatah youth that includes hundreds of young people from various disciplines, stressing the necessity of investing these efforts within the government's plan to confront the spread of the virus and the needs of society during the emergency.

The meeting was attended by Vice President of the Fatah movement Mahmoud Al-Aloul, the head of the General Intelligence Service Maj. Gen. Majed Faraj, the Minister of Civil Affairs Hussein Al-Sheikh, the team Haji Ismail Jabr, and the finance ministers Shukri Bishara and Health Mai Kailleh and Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki Ibrahim Melhem and Security Assistant to the Minister of Interior, Major General Mohamed Jabrini.
