The Prime Minister Meeting a French Senate's Delegation; Praises Senate's Peacebuilding, Anti-Occupation Positions

Ramallah, Thursday, June 30, 2022 -

‘His Excellency expressed his appreciation of the French Senate's rejection of the illegitimate Israeli Occupation and Israeli actions that undermine the prospects of peace and preclude the two-state solution.’

The Prime Minister made the previous remarks Thursday at a meeting with a delegation from the French Senate, headed by Senator Christian Cambon, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defense, and the Armed Forces, at his office in Ramallah.

Dr. Shtayyeh indicated the importance of developing a French-European political initiative to fill the vacuum in accordance with European principles based on a two-state solution, negotiations, the Palestinian people's right to self-determination, statehood on the (1967) geographically connected borders, and a viable state.

The Prime Minister called on the French Senate to engage with the French government to recognize the State of Palestine on the (1967) borders, with Jerusalem as its capital. If accomplished, France's recognition would be followed by many European capitals.

The Palestinian PM stressed that France and Europe could protect the two-state solution by bringing pressure to bear on Israel to halt illegal settlement construction and land seizure, and by halting Israel's violation of the historical status of the Al-Aqsa Mosque Compound.

Furthermore, Dr. Shtayyeh called for bringing pressure to bear on Israel to abide by the reached agreements, noting that Israel has violated all political, security-related, economic, and financial conventions. His Excellency concluded by praising France's position in support of Palestine at all levels and its vote in favor of the resumption of European assistance unconditionally.
