On Nordic Day, The Prime Minister Hopes Nordic Countries Will Follow Sweden's Lead and Recognize The State of Palestine

Ramallah, Wednesday, June 1, 2022 —

“Israel's escalation is catastrophic; the displacement and deportation of Palestinian people in ‘Musaffer Yatta,’ Southern Hebron, and the assassination of journalist Shireen Abu Akleh. Earlier Today, Ghofran Warasneh, another Palestinian journalist, was killed in cold blood after Israeli occupation forces shot her. The Israeli army pursues a ‘Shoot-to-Kill’ policy on a daily basis”

This came during the Prime Minister of the State of Palestine, Dr. Mohammed Shtayyeh's speech at The Nordic Day 2022: State of the Nordic Region Celebration (Denmark, Sweden, Finland, and Norway) on Wednesday in Ramallah. In the presence of several ministers, ambassadors, consuls, and other official and legal personalities.

His Excellency further stated, “The international community must act and move from statements of condemnation to earnest actions against Israel. Sanctions must be imposed on Israel. Several international institutions and organizations have reported that Israel is a state of Apartheid by legislation and application. The system of Apartheid has to come to an end.”

Furthermore, Dr. Shtayyeh went on to say, "Israel systematically destroys every possible opportunity to embody the establishment of a Palestinian state by seizing land to expand illegal Israeli settlements."

Addressing the audience, the Prime Minister Proceeded, "We are now in a political vacuum. We must work together to create a political initiative to move forward, end the occupation, and revive the hope of the Palestinian people."

At last, the Palestinian PM called on "The Nordic countries to be inspired by Sweden and recognize the State of Palestine, which would be a proper response to the occupation and a message to Israel destroying every possible opportunity towards the two states. The message that 'You are with us,' supporting and preserving the two-state solution."
