Ramallah, Sunday, May 15, 2022 -

The Prime Minister of the State of Palestine, Dr. Mohammed Shtayyeh, welcomed today, at his office in Ramallah, the Head of the International Committee of the Red Cross Mission in Palestine, Dr. Els Debuf.

On his part, His Excellency called on the ICRC to make a greater effort to pressure Israel to release the withheld bodies of Palestinian martyrs and to universalize their cause. By doing so, Israel is committing a criminal precedent that violates the most basic human rights, as it denies Palestinians the right to a proper burial.

During the meeting, Dr. Shtayyeh urged the Red Cross to shed light on the personal stories of prisoners, what they’ve been through their writings and memoirs, and to publish them and translate them into various languages in order to show the world what the Palestinians are experiencing in the prisons of the Israeli occupation.

His Excellency expressed his gratitude for the ICRC's efforts to monitor and improve the humanitarian conditions of Palestinians held captive in the occupation's prisons and make their families the necessary arrangements for their families to visit them.

The Prime Minister praised Debuf's important role and performance during her years of service in Palestine. His Excellency wished Dr. Els, whose mission is nearing completion, well in her personal life. Furthermore, Dr. Mohammed wished the new director, Mr. Olmo, success in his duties in Palestine and to be up to the task of upholding his responsibilities as his important position requires.
