Shtayyeh discusses with the World Bank the possibilities of supporting the government's development plans

He called for the creation of programs to support the agricultural sector and youth employment


Prime Minister Dr. Muhammad Shtayyeh discussed with a delegation from the World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors, headed by the Executive Director and Dean of the Board of Executive Directors Mirza Hassan, the possibilities of aligning the bank’s programs in Palestine with the government's development plans, particularly in supporting agriculture and youth employment.

Shtayyeh said during a meeting, that includes about 13 executive directors, today, Wednesday, in his office in Ramallah

“The bank has vital programs in various sectors in Palestine such as education, water, health and energy, and we want agriculture to be within these sectors to raise production capacity and create opportunities Act, and protect the land in exchange for Israeli settlement measures.”

Shtayyeh called on the bank to contribute to youth employment programs, especially university graduates, pointing to a new program adopted by the government to train hundreds of graduates in programming to reformulate their capabilities to suit the needs of the labor market.

Shtayyeh also renewed the bank’s demand for assistance in checking Israeli deductions from Palestinian tax funds, stressing that “these deductions in millions of shekels constitute bleeding for the Palestinian treasury and are performed without any scrutiny in four files: electricity, water and sanitation, and medical transfers that have recently decreased dramatically as a result of the decision to stop Transfer to Israeli hospitals.”

The Prime Minister called to support Palestinian efforts to liberate from the shekel currency that strengthens dependency on the economy of the occupation, and to strengthen the bank's programs in the Gaza Strip and in Jerusalem to enhance the resilience of people in light of the Israeli measures of the Gaza blockade and the isolation of Jerusalem, calling for dealing with the economic and development situation in Palestine within the framework Political.

In the same context, Shtayyeh briefed the delegation on the government's development strategy with clusters, which aims to create balanced economic development based on the economic advantage of each governorate, as well as strengthening the capabilities of the private sector and strengthening the national product and openness to global and Arab markets, which leads to the gradual disintegration of the economic dependency on Israel.
