Shtayyeh inaugurates the Palestinian National Center for Cancer and Hereditary Diseases Diagnosis in Ramallah

Ramallah, Sunday, September 22, 2019 – Prime Minister’s Office: The Palestinian Prime Minister, Dr. Mohammed Shtayyeh, speaking at the inauguration of the National Center for Cancer and Hereditary Diseases Diagnosis, Said, "We have 6251 cancer patients, which is a high number compared to neighboring countries, and the main reason for this problem and for some of our diseases is the Israeli occupation that uses our land as a landfill for nuclear and chemical waste. Therefore, we will sue them for this criminal act against the Palestinian citizens and lands."

                   

H.E. Dr. Shtayyeh continued," Our focus is on health and education among other issues, where a national team was established to carry out studies regarding health issues such as medical transfers and the development of the health institution". H.E. the Prime Minister also added, "We set a limited timeframe for these studies to be completed, in order to reduce our people suffering and pain.” “H.E. President Mahmoud Abbas considers the health sector as one of his priorities, and within a short period of time we will inaugurate the Hugo Chávez Ophthalmic Hospital, the Turkish Hospital, which contains 200 beds in Gaza Strip, in addition other new hospitals, too.” H.E. Dr. Shtayyeh stated.

 

The Prime Minister has considered the inauguration of the Center as one of the stepping-stones towards our disengagement from the Israeli occupation and establishment of our independent state.

H.E. Dr. Shtayyeh highlighted, "Medicine in Palestine is not commercial, and we do not sell illusions for people." And concluded by expressing appreciation and gratitude to the private sector for  funding the Center.

 

It`s worth mentioning that the inauguration of the National Center for Cancer and Hereditary Diseases Diagnosis, which is the first of its kind in Palestine, was attended by number of Palestinian officials including: Dr. Laila Ghannam, Governor of Ramallah and Al-Bireh,  Dr. Mai Keila, Minister of Health, Staff members of the Ministry of Health, and Representatives of the Private Health Sector.
