11/11/2019
During the 29th weekly Cabinet meeting, held at the Presidential Office in Ramallah today, President Mahmoud Abbas briefed Prime Minister Dr. Mohammad Shtayyeh and his government on the latest political developments, especially the will and determination of the Palestinian leadership to hold the general Palestinian elections. “We will do our best to accomplish this process, and conduct legislative and presidential elections on certain dates upon a formal decree, with reference to the Palestinian Basic Law, and all over the whole country; the West Bank, including Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip, under local, regional and international supervision to ensure the integrity of the outcomes of the elections,” President Abbas stated while heading the meeting.
Additionally, President Abbas stressed the importance of the role of the Palestinian government in serving its citizens and contributing to the vital sectors in the country, including promoting investment and disengagement from the occupation, developing the health sector, and maintaining the quality of the education system, preserving and supporting the agricultural sector as well as water resources, and improving the entrepreneurial and technological work environments.
In this context, President Abbas praised the efforts exerted by the government in different fields, especially in dealing with crises it faced.
In his turn, Prime Minister Dr. Shtayyeh affirmed the readiness of his government to complete all the requirements of holding successful elections to renew the Palestinian legitimacy and revive the democratic scene, stressing that the government is exerting its utmost efforts to implement the directives of President Abbas on this democratic process.
Separately, the Cabinet condemned the killing of Omar al-Badawi, 20 years old, from al-Arroub refugee camp in Hebron, in cold blood, while he was extinguishing a fire at the entrance of the camp.
Moreover, the Cabinet deplored the daily Israeli attacks and raid campaigns against the homes of Palestinian citizens in the town of Issawiya, which aim at isolating it from the Holy City of Jerusalem and confiscating its lands in favor of establishing military points to restrict the siege on the area.
To conclude, the Cabinet commemorated the 15th anniversary of the death of the late Palestinian President Yasser Arafat and saluted the Palestinian citizens on the occasion of the 31st anniversary of the Declaration of Independence in Algeria. The Cabinet stressed it continues to work towards the establishment of an independent Palestinian State on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
