Remarks by PM Shtayyeh Ahead of 14th Weekly Cabinet Meeting

22/07/2019

The Cabinet condemns the Israeli war crime and grave aggression in Wadi Al-Hummus and affirms 'We will not deal with unjust Israeli divisions of our land.’

In his opening statement, ahead of the weekly Cabinet meeting held in Ramallah today, Prime Minister Dr. Mohammad Shtayyeh condemned the Israeli war crime against the Palestinian citizens of Wadi Al-Hummus in occupied Jerusalem. “We call upon the international community as well as international and legal institutions to address forced displacement of our citizens under the total support of the US administration,” Prime Minister Shtayyeh stated.

Prime Minister Dr. Shtayyeh affirmed that the demolition of Palestinian buildings in Wadi Al-Hummus is a clear violation of the international and humanitarian law, noting that most of these buildings, whether demolished or threatened with demolition, are located in Areas A and B and that the occupation revoked the current land divisions. “We will not deal with these unjust Israeli divisions of our land, especially after imposing a reality that contradicts the international law and unilaterally signed agreements,” PM Shtayyeh told. In addition, Prime Minister Dr. Shtayyeh stressed that President Mahmoud Abbas instructed the Minister of Foreign Affairs to file a complaint to the International Criminal Court in this regard.

Moreover, Prime Minister Shtayyeh denounced the latest dangerous statements made by the US administration officials, which deny the reality and injustice of the occupation against our citizens.  “Those who deny the occupation and justify it are considered its partners. Anyone believes that the Palestinian land is not occupied, but disputed and that the Israeli settlement is legitimate, is blindfolded against the ugliness of the military occupation, the theft of land and natural resources, as well as the violation of human rights, discrimination and racism practiced by the Israeli government. “These provocative statements reflect the full support of the current US administration to the right-wing government, its settlement policy and its violations of international agreements and the international law,” Prime Minister Shtayyeh expressed.

In a different context, Prime Minister Dr. Shtayyeh praised the Municipality of Sheffield for recognizing the State of Palestine and raising its flag on top of the Municipality’s building. “We extend our gratitude to the organizers of the campaign, friends of Palestine from the Labor Party in Sheffield, for their efforts in this recognition. We call upon the British and European governments as well as the rest of the world governments to take immediate steps that would save the two-state solution instead of waiting for Israel to annex parts of the West Bank.,” Prime Minister Shtayyeh concluded.
