Summary of Key Remarks by Prime Minister Dr. Mohammad
Shtayyeh Ahead of the Cabinet 141st Meeting

On behalf of the Cabinet, I welcome our newly appointed Ministers: Major General Ziad Hab Al-Rih, Minister of Interior, and His Eminence Sheikh Hatem Al-Bakri, Minister of Endowments and Religious Affairs. We wish them continued success in their duties.

-With grave concern, we are following up on the critical health condition of prisoner Hisham Abu Hawash, who has been on hunger strike for 140 days. We addressed/ sent letters to all international and human rights bodies and institutions to pressure Israel to immediately release him. We hold the occupation authorities fully responsible for his life.

-Currently, there are more than 4,600 prisoners, including children, women, youth, old, and ill people in Israeli prisons. We are surprised by the silence of human rights institutions and the international civil society with regard to the situation of Palestinian prisoners and detainees in Israeli prisons.

-In light of the alarming increase of COVID-19 Omicron variant cases in many countries worldwide, I call on all citizens to continue adherence to preventive measures through wearing masks, maintaining social distance, and receiving vaccinations to preserve their safety and the safety of their community.

-We condemn the Israeli attacks against our people in the Gaza Strip and the policies of killing and demolition practiced systematically by occupation authorities in the West Bank. We hold Israel, the occupying power, fully responsible for the lives and properties of our citizens.

-Last year, the Palestinian economy recorded a GDP growth rate of 6.7%, despite the financial crisis, COVID-19 pandemic, and the measures of the Israeli occupation
